Zephi rushed forward as fast as her tired legs would carry her. She grasped a tuft of grass with her trunk and brought it to her mouth. How wonderful! She was concentrating so closely on the food that she hadn't noticed anything else around her. Suddenly, there was a loud noise, and with a jolt of fear, Zephi remembered how vulnerable she was without the rest of the herd. She quickly sniffed the air, ready to run, and looked around to see if any hunters were near — especially the two-legged ones with the throwing sticks. She calmed as she realized that, for the moment, she was safe. There was, however, an odd arrangement of rocks up ahead, which carried a smell of... Something good. She couldn't quite figure it out. Zephi walked cautiously to the pile. She nosed it with her trunk. It was oddly warm.
"Hello, Zephi. We've been waiting for you."
